Dear Residents and Businesses:
Here is an update on Hurricane Irene from Stonington Emergency Management.
Office of Emergency Management
Town of Stonington

Hurricane Irene
With the possibility of a major hurricane hitting the coast of Connecticut early Sunday morning, this office would like to ask all town residents to prepare for the approaching storm. If you go to the Town of Stonington home page (www.stonington-ct.gov) and click on the Emergency Management link you will find links to the Red Cross site which is a helpful guide for preparing for a hurricane.
Develop a family plan to follow during the storm. If you are requested to leave your home please do so immediately. The shelter for the town is located at the Stonington High School and will be opened for anyone that feels they need to go to a shelter. Pets will be sheltered at the High School but you must bring a crate and food for your pet and you must stay with your pet at all times. If you need to leave your home, please shut off all utilities to your home. If your home is prone to flooding, please take proper preventive measures now as emergency services will be overwhelmed and may not be able to assist you in a timely manner. As of now, the storm is predicted to bring 4 to 12 inches of rain to the area. If you see downed trees, please call 860-535-5055 to report these
incidences. This number will put you in contact with the Public Works Department who will be handling tree removal from the roads. PLEASE DO NOT OVERWHELM THE 911 SYSTEM with these calls unless it is a true emergency. If the storm hits the town at full force, residents should be prepared to be without power for an extended period of time.
If we all prepare in advance, we will get through this storm with as little disruption as possible.
