Connecticut General Statutes, §12-63c authorizes municipalities to require owners of rent-producing property to annually submit to the assessor the 2016 calendar year rental and rental-related income and operating expense information. The Assessor’s Office mailed forms for this purpose to all known owners of rent-producing properties in Stonington.  These forms must be returned not later than June 1, 2017. Any owner of rent-producing real property who fails to file this form by the due date, or files an incomplete or false form with the intent to defraud, shall be subject to a penalty assessment equal to a ten percent (10%) increase in the assessed value of such property, effective on the 2017 grand list. A written request for an extension if received by May 1, may be granted for good cause.

Income and expense information shall not be a public record and is not subject to the provisions of C.G.S Section §1-210 (Freedom of Information Act).  The information will be used solely by the Stonington Department of Assessment and contracted appraisers.  Please contact the Stonington Department of Assessment at 860-535-5098 if you have any questions or need assistance in filing an income and expense form.
