Animal Waste, Removal of

ORDINANCE RE:  REMOVAL OF ANIMAL WASTE
 

WHEREAS, the Town of Stonington wishes to prohibit the leaving of animal waste within the limits of the Town; and

WHEREAS, it is very common for people to walk their pets on public and private property within the limits of the Town; and

WHEREAS, said pets leave feces and other animal waste; and

WHEREAS, animal waste is a hazard to the health and well being of the Town’s residents and guest; and

WHEREAS, the Town wishes to protect the public health, safety and welfare of all of its residents and guests.

THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY ORDAINED BY THE RESIDENTS OF THE TOWN OF STONINGTON THAT:

1.  It shall be unlawful for any person owning, keeping, walking or in control of any dog or other animal to allow or permit such animal to defecate upon any private property owned by another person, condominium common elements or public property, including but not limited to parks, beaches and school ground unless such person shall remove all feces and other animal waste so deposited by such animal before leaving the immediate premises.

2.  The provisions of this section shall not apply to a guide dog accompanying any blind person.

3.  Any violation of this section shall be punishable by a fine of thirty-five dollars ($35.00).

4.  That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed.

5.  That this ordinance shall become effective fifteen (15) days after publication in a newspaper having circulation in the Town of Stonington.
