TAX ORDINANCE 1

AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF STONINGTON, CONNECTICUT, PROVIDING FOR THE RETAINING OF EXCESS TAX PAYMENTS MADE BY TAXPAYERS FOR AMOUNTS LESS THAN FIVE ($5.00) DOLLARS.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE LEGAL VOTERS OF THE TOWN OF STONINGTON IN LAWFUL TOWN MEETING DULY ASSEMBLED THAT THE FOLLOWING ORDINANCE BE ESTABLISHED BY THE TOWN OF STONINGTON:

Section 1. Retention of Tax Overpayments Less Than Five ($5.00) Dollars.

The Town of Stonington, by and through its tax collector, shall retain any overpayment of taxes made to the Town provided that said overpayment is less than Five ($5.00) Dollars.

Section 2.  Severability

If any provision, of this ordinance or the application thereof to any person or circumstance is held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of any other part of this ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provisions of applications; and to this end, the provisions of this ordinance and the various applications thereof are declared to be severable.

Section 3.  Conflict With Existing Ordinances

That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed.

This ordinance shall become effective fifteen (15) days after publication in a newspaper having a circulation within the Town.
