TAX ORDINANCE 3

AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF STONINGTON, CONNECTICUT, PROVIDING FOR THE TYPES OF PAYMENTS OF DELINQUENT TAXES BEFORE ISSUING A CLEARANCE FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE LEGAL VOTERS OF THE TOWN OF STONINGTON IN LAWFUL TOWN MEETING DULY ASSEMBLED THAT THE FOLLOWING ORDINANCE BE ESTABLISHED BY THE TOWN OF STONINGTON:

Section 1.  Payment of Delinquent Taxes For A Clearance For The Department Of Motor Vehicles.

(A)     Any taxpayer shall pay any delinquent taxes by cash, certified bank check, or money order if said taxpayer requires a clearance from the Town of Stonington for the Department of Motor Vehicles.

(B)     If a taxpayer pays any delinquent taxes by personal check, the Town shall not issue any clearance for the Department of Motor Vehicles until the Town has confirmed that said personal check has been cleared by the drawing bank.

Section 2.  Severability

If any provision,of this ordinance or the application thereof to any person or circumstance is held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of any other part of this ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provisions of applications; and to this end, the provisions of this ordinance and the various applications thereof are declared to be severable.

Section 3. Conflict With Existing Ordinances

That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed.

This ordinance shall become effective fifteen (15) days after publication in a newspaper having a circulation within the Town.
