TOWN OF STONINGTON
NOTICE OF REFERENDUM
OCTOBER 5, 2021
The referendum for the electors and citizens qualified to vote in Town Meetings of the Town of Stonington to reaffirm the vote on the first item of the warning of the Special Town meeting called for Monday, August 9, 2021 will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the following voting places:
FIRST AND THIRD DISTRICT Stonington Fire House, 100 Main St., Stonington
SECOND DISTRICT Former Pawcatuck Middle School, 40 Field St., Pawcatuck
FOURTH AND FIFTH DISTRICT B.F. Hoxie Fire House, 34 Broadway Ave., Mystic
The referendum will be held pursuant to the provisions of Section 7-7 of the General Statutes of Connecticut.
Persons, not electors of the Town of Stonington, being citizens of the United States, age 18 years or older, jointly or severally liable to the Town of Stonington for taxes on an assessment of not less than $1000 on the last completed grand list, desiring to vote pursuant to the provision of Section 7-6 of the General Statutes of Connecticut, shall vote in the First Voting District at the Stonington Fire Station, 100 Main St., Stonington. Absentee ballots will be available from the Town Clerk’s office during normal business hours beginning on Monday, September 13, 2021.
The first item on the Special Town Meeting called for Monday, August 9, 2021 set forth in the warning of said meeting is as follows:
A resolution, pursuant to §12-65b of the Connecticut General Statutes, to enter into a property tax assessment agreement with COGGSWELL REDEVELOPMENT, LLC, a Connecticut limited liability company, fixing the assessment for the development of property at 27 West Broad Street and 15 Coggswell Street, Pawcatuck, Connecticut. Such agreement shall not exceed ten years. A copy of the complete text of the proposed Agreement is on file in the Town Clerk’s office during normal business hours and available on the Town’s website at www.stonington-ct.gov.
The wording for the question will be as follows:
“SHALL THE VOTE AT THE TOWN MEETING OF AUGUST 9, 2021 TO APPROVE A RESOLUTION TO ENTER INTO A PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENT AGREEMENT WITH COGGSWELL REDEVELOPMENT, LLC BE OVERTURNED?”
Those voting to overturn the resolution that was passed at Town Meeting will vote “YES”.
Those voting to reaffirm the resolution that was passed will vote “NO”.
The Registrar of Voters with receive and record the vote on October 5, 2021 at 8:30 p.m. at Stonington Town Hall.
