Town Hall and Municipal Reopening Guidelines Effective June 8, 2020

Effective June 8, 2020, Town Hall will reopen to the public.  Please review the departmental guideline listed below.

Town Hall General:

  • Please put on your mask before entering Town Hall
  • Please respect social distancing guidelines of six feet
  • Only one person in the elevator at a time
  • Use the drop box located on the front steps of Town Hall whenever possible
  • Please contact us in advance of your visit when possible to see if we may assist you via phone or email

Town Clerk:

  • Preferred method of business is mail or drop box on front steps.
  • Town Clerk’s vault will be by appointment only.  Appointments will be in one (1) hour increments & only 2 people at a time will be allowed to access the vault.  Before entering the Town Clerk’s office everyone will be required to wear a mask & gloves will be provided.  Appointments may be scheduled by calling the town clerk’s office 860-535-5060.  
  • Public search terminals have been relocated to the main hallway of town hall.  Any documents printed will be retrieved by staff & handed to customer at counter. 
  • Only two people will be allowed at the Town Clerk’s front counter at a time. 

Tax Collector:

  • Please use our online payment system when possible at www.stonington-ct.gov 
  • Please continue to use the drop box on the front steps of Town Hall (no cash) or send checks through the mail.
  • Only two people will be allowed at the Tax Collector’s counter at one time. 
  • During the first week of July, a table outside of Town Hall will be manned to collect tax payments (weather permitting).

Department of Assessment:

The Department of Assessment highly recommends calling prior to coming to Town Hall due to limited social distancing space in the Department. The majority of issues can be resolved by phone, drop box, or email. The wait time for assistance will be longer in person than by phone, drop box or email.

Appointments are required for the following purposes:

  • Additional Veteran’s Exemption Application Filing

Only one individual will be allowed to use the public terminal in the office at a time and there will be no use of the table space. Property cards and maps will have to be printed at the terminal.

Only one individual will be allowed to enter the office at a time for questions and issues relating to assessments.

Transfer Station:

Effecitve Monday, June 1, 2020 the Transer Station is no longer requiring appointments and is resuming normal operating hours.  We ask that residents continue to practice social distancing and wear masks for your safety and safety of those around you.  We appreciate your patience and understanding during these difficult times.

Hours of Operation:

Monday, Tuesday: 9:00 to 3:00
Wednesday: Closed
Thursday, Friday: 9:00 to 3:00
Saturday: 8:00 to 3:00
Sunday: 8:00 to 1:00

Building Department:

  • Applications, plans, and other paperwork: Whenever possible please download the applications online and then use the drop box and/or emails to submit applications.
  • Drop-in visitors will be allowed, but only one person will be able to be at the counter at a time. Appointments to meet with the building officials are requested. Calls or emails are preferred whenever possible.  

WPCA:

  • Continue to utilize the drop box at Town Hall and/or mail in payments when possible.
  • Drop-in visitors will be allowed, but only one person will be able to be at the counter at a time.
  • Call or email meetings are preferred whenever possible.  

Human Services:

As we continue to move through these challenges as a community, our team at Stonington Human Services (dedicated staff representing (4) divisions: Social Services | Recreation | Youth & Family Services | Senior Services) remains here for you! Social service intakes and counseling appointments (in person or virtual) remain available by appointment. Town Playgrounds:

Starting on June 17th the town of Stonington's playgrounds will again be open for the public. Please note, that your own personal circumstances and judgement will be needed to determine if using the playground is right for your family. Though transmission of COVID-19 from contaminated surfaces is less likely than from close contact with an infected person, frequently touched objects like playground equipment can result in transmission of COVID-19.
