Budget Process 2021

Budget season kicks off with a series of budget presentations that go into detail on specific areas of the budget and are a great way to get a deeper understanding of the inner workings of your local government.
The next step is the Board of Finance deliberations, where members will publicly discuss and debate how best to balance the many pressing financial needs of our community. After deliberations, we hold a Public Hearing in April where the public has the opportunity to share views on specific line items within the budget.
The First Selectman then presents the final budget at a Town Meeting to residents before moving it to a referendum for residents to vote on directly.
We encourage all residents to engage in the budget process, as the investments being made in our community will impact many aspects of daily life in both the short- and long-term.
To ensure fair access to information and the safety of our community, we will provide virtual access to residents for the budget presentations. Due to COVID concerns, public will not be able to attend the presentations in-person, but we will offer a WebEx link, phone line, and will stream to FaceBook live, as well as recordings available on the Town’s YouTube page for access after the meetings. We will be continuing to monitor COVID rates in and around our community, and working in partnership with LLHD and Town Hall staff, will determine if we can offer a in-person option for the public hearing.
