First Selectman Community Update- October 15, 2020

contact tracing

Dear Stonington Residents,

I hope this update finds everyone well. Given the increase in cases throughout our region, I wanted to dedicate this community update to COVID-19 updates.

We wanted to be sure you knew that since the increase in cases in our region we have been doing weekly updates, every Friday on the Town website, under ‘News’. The most recent update, from last Friday, can be found here. We do this every Friday late afternoon/early evening so we are able to share both CT DPH numbers as well as LLHD numbers that are released Friday afternoon. We plan to continue to do this as long as rates continue to rise.

North Stonington and Stonington, along with Ledge Light Health District, held a virtual forum this evening to discuss COVID-19 updates with opportunity for Q&A. You can view this video by visiting the Town's Facebook feed. A main point stressed from LLHD was to please limit your social interactions with those outside your inner circle. This is key to curb the spread we are seeing, largely from recreational and social activities.

Yale New Haven Health will be offering COVID-19 testing again for those without symptoms both this and next Friday, October 16 and 23, from 8:30am to 4:00pm. They will be at the same location, behind Stonington Human Services. There is no fee and appointments are not required, but you can make one and skip the line by visiting here. If you have questions, visit YNHHS.org or call 833-ASK-YNHH.

Last week we also shared a short video featuring LLHD and our Director of Human Services to share information regarding steps we can be taking to help mitigate the community spread in our region, how contact tracing works and sharing various resources we have in place to help with mental health during this challenging time. You can view the video in the COVID-19 news update found here.

To end on some more positive news. While we know we will need to celebrate Halloween differently this year, that can also bring about opportunities to create new memories. We have a written update, found here, that highlights safety precautions from the State, along with new activities being hosted by the Town or local organizations that may be of interest. Together with our Human Services Director and Stonington Borough Warden, we also created a short video summarizing the update, which can be found here. We know this is a difficult time for so many, and it is our hope that this mix of Halloween activities shared will help offer a range of fun options for the community.

If you have questions, ideas or concerns please call or email. Stay safe Stonington.

Warm regards,

Danielle Chesebrough, Stonington First Selectman
