Three months after the Connecticut Casting Building on 75 Stillman Avenue collapsed during a heavy rainstorm, work crews with Standard Demolition Services from Trumbull, CT, and ChemScope Industrial Hygiene in North Haven, CT, gathered at the Pawcatuck site to begin the process of removing the debris. Material on site will be segregated into separate piles and tested prior to removal to ensure safe transportation to disposal sites elsewhere in the country. Later the largely brick refuse that fell into the Wood Pawcatuck River will also be recovered. The work is being supervised by Stonington Town Engineer Scot Deledda. Pawcatuck Fire Chief Kevin Burns has served as Incident Manager and the Stonington Police Department has provided traffic control.
