Notice is hereby given that the WPCA will conduct a Virtual Public Hearing on June 16, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. to discuss possible bond issuance in the amount of 10 million dollars for major repairs and upgrades to the WPCA facilities.  Pending the outcoming of the Virtual Public Hearing, the WPCA could take action to recommend the bond be sent to the Board of Selectmen and Board of Finance for their consideration and approval of the bond per Executive Order 7S.  Under normal circumstances a bond would go to a Town Meeting and sent to referendum to be voted on by electors and citizens who are qualified to vote at a Town Meeting.  However, given the risks and challenges present by the pandemic, the State of Connecticut has given local municipalities additional tools to pass time sensitive financial matters.

Residents who want to comment during the Virtual Public Hearing are asked to do one of the following:

Preferred method: Submit written testimony of no more than 300 words (equivalent to a two-minute speech) via:

  • Email: stoningtonwpca@stonington-ct.gov
  • Mail: Town of Stonington, WPCA, 152 Elm Street, Stonington, CT 06378;
  • In-person: there is a drop box located outside of Town Hall

All submissions need to be received no later than 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2020.  You should cite your name, address and if you are in favor or opposition.

Secondary Option: Residents wishing to speak during the Virtual Public Hearing must call the WPCA at 860.535.5065 by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2020 to sign up to speak and will be asked to provide your name, address and if you are in favor or opposition.  Residents will be limited to two minutes in comments.

Please note, comments will only be accepted in these formats and will be limited to two minutes.

The WPCA is strongly urging those who want to participate to write in their testimony.  We are working together to try and keep the taxpayers involved and informed during this, but have limited resources and ask for your understanding if we experience any technical issues.

This meeting will be held in accordance with the requirements in Governor Ned Lamont’s Executive Orders including 7I and 7S.  This meeting will be posted and available via virtual live streaming with additional audio options.

If residents have questions please contact the WPCA at (860) 535-5065.
