Air Quality Update

Air

Town and School representatives, along with LLHD, met this morning to connect regarding air quality issues impacting our area. We will be continuously monitoring the situation, and remain in consistent communication.

As of 10:15am, air quality conditions are currently deemed “unhealthy” with AQI values of 150-170PM25.

Dense smoke is expected to move into our area over the next few hours with higher smoke density expected than what was observed yesterday. CT DEEP has issued an Air Quality Action Day for fine particulates through midnight tonight, meaning fine particulate concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.

It is recommended to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, where you are breathing hard to extended periods of time, and when possible keeping outdoor actives short. You can check the air quality levels directly using www.airnow.gov/

The schools have shared a specific message with their staff and families as well.

The highest concentrations of smoke is expected to stay in Connecticut through the evening and into the early morning hours of Thursday. Lower concentrations of smoke will linger through much of Thursday.

We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
