Notice is hereby given that the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Stonington will conduct a Virtual Public Hearing on June 10, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. to discuss the 2020 Neighborhood Assistance Act Tax Credit Applications.

At this hearing, interested persons may participate in the virtual meeting and be heard and written communications will be received. If unable to attend, please forward written communications to the Board of Selectmen, 152 Elm Street, Stonington, CT 06378 or to selectmen@stonington-ct.gov by June 8, 2020.

Notice is hereby given that in accordance with Governor Ned Lamont’s Executive Order 7I and 7JJ the Town of Stonington Board of Selectmen will consider, discuss, and vote upon the following:

A resolution to adopt an Ordinance of the Town of Stonington, Connecticut, providing for the abatement of taxes for property located at 137 Pequotsepos Road, Mystic, effective as of October 30, 2019, and owned by the Denison Society, Inc.  A copy of the complete text of the proposed Ordinance is posted on the Town of Stonington website and with the Town Clerk.

All ordinances and amendments thereto shall become effective following approval in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Orders and fifteen (15) days after publication on the Town’s website.

TAX EXEMPTION DENISION SOCIETY INC.

 

 

ORDINANCE RE: DENISON SOCIETY INC.

(TAX EXEMPTION)

 

AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF STONINGTON, CONNECTICUT, PROVIDING FOR THE DENISON SOCIETY INC. TO RECEIVE TAX EXEMPT STATUS AS OF THE DATE OF PURCHASE OF REAL PROPERTY.

 

WHEREAS, the Town of Stonington recognizes the inherent good and benefits that non-profit organizations provide to the community and the citizens of the Town; and

 

WHEREAS, the Town of Stonington recognizes the wealth of assistances that non-profit organizations provide to the citizens of the Town; and

 

WHEREAS, the Town of Stonington desires to allow the Denison Society Inc. to enjoy tax exempt status as of October 30, 2019, the date that said organization acquired real property within the Town; and

 

WHEREAS, General Statute §12-81b provides that the Town of Stonington may pass an ordinance to accomplish this goal;

 

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY ORDAINED BY THE LEGAL VOTERS OF THE TOWN OF STONINGTON IN LAWFUL TOWN MEETING DULY ASSEMBLED THAT:

 

Section 1.  Tax Exempt Status As Of The Date Of Acquisition.

The property tax exemption authorized by subsections (7) and (16), inclusive, of §12-81 of the Connecticut General Statutes, shall be effective as to the Denison Society Inc. as of the date of acquisition of the property, being October 30, 2019, for property acquired at 137 Pequotsepos Rd, Mystic, Connecticut.  

 

Section 2.  Severability.

If any provision of this ordinance or the application thereof to any person or circumstance is held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of any other part of this ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provisions of applications; and to this end, the provisions of this ordinance and the various applications thereof are declared to be severable.

 

Section 3.  Conflict With Existing Ordinances.

That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed.  

 

In accordance with Governor Ned Lamont’s Executive Orders JI and JJ, this Ordinance shall become effective following approval of the Board of Selectmen in lieu of a Town Meeting and fifteen (15) days after publication on the Town’s website.
