NOTICE OF ANNUAL TOWN BUDGET MEETING

The Annual Town Budget Meeting of the electors and citizens qualified to vote in Town Meetings of the Town of Stonington will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at Stonington High School, 176 South Broad Street, Pawcatuck for the following purpose to wit:

To appropriate sufficient sum or sums of money to carry on the various divisions of Town Government for the following purposes for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2023, all of which have been approved and recommended by the Board of Finance to the extent of the amount appearing opposite each (a copy of the detailed budget is available to view in the Town Clerk’s Office 152 Elm Street, Stonington, CT 06378 during normal business hours or online here):

The Board of Finance’s recommended budget for Fiscal Year 2023-2024 carries a 17.45 mil rate.  Of the above budget, the amount to be raised by taxes is $69,722,713.

A referendum to vote on said item will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. Please see the legal notice regarding the Referendum/Adjourned Annual Town Budget Meeting for further details.

NOTICE OF REFERENDUM/ADJOURNED ANNUAL TOWN BUDGET MEETING
MAY 16, 2023

 

The referendum for the electors and citizens qualified to vote in Town Meetings of the Town of Stonington on the first item of the warning of the Annual Town Budget meeting called for Monday, May 8, 2023 will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the following voting places:

FIRST, FOURTH AND FIFTH DISTRICT     Stonington Fire Station, 100 Main St., Stonington

SECOND AND THIRD DISTRICT                Former Pawcatuck Middle School, 40 Field St., Pawcatuck

The referendum will be held pursuant to the provisions of Section 7-7 of the General Statutes of Connecticut.

Persons, noted electors of the Town of Stonington, being citizens of the United States, age 18 years or older, jointly or severally liable to the Town of Stonington for taxes on an assessment of not less than $1000 on the last completed grand list, desiring to vote pursuant to the provision of Section 7-6 of the General Statutes of Connecticut, shall vote in the First Voting District at the Stonington Fire Station, 100 Main St., Stonington. Absentee ballots will be available from the Town Clerk’s office during normal business hours beginning on Monday, April 24, 2023.

The first item on the Annual Town Budget Meeting called for Monday, May 8, 2023 set forth in the warning of said meeting is as follows:

SHALL THE TOWN OF STONINGTON MAKE APPROPRIATIONS IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $80,159,204 FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY 1, 2023?”

Those voting in favor of said item will vote “YES”, and those voting against said item will vote “NO”.

The Monday, May 8, 2023 Annual Town Budget Meeting will then reconvene at Stonington Town Hall on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 8:30 p.m. to consider and record the vote.
