Invitation- September 16 - Naloxone Virtual Training

Today is Suicide Prevention Day, and last week was International Overdose Awareness Day. First, we wanted to say if you or anyone you know is in need of help, please know there are confidential resources to help, and there should be no shame in seeking assistance for mental health or substance abuse (see site here or call 1-800-662-4357).

In an effort to address one of the many challenging issues that are part of these two important awareness days, we are offering a virtual training on September 16th from 9-10:30am on use of naloxone nasal spray. During the training you will learn more about opiate use, suicide prevention and how we can help save lives.

Everyone who attends will be given a naloxone nasal spray kit, which you are encouraged to keep on you as you never know when it may be needed. Thank you to Kristen King and the team at human services for working so hard to pull this together.

This is an issue all communities are struggling with. In Stonington, looking at January through the end of July of this year, Stonington Police responded to 23 overdose calls. During this same time period they also responded to 33 suicide calls, where individuals were sent for evaluation. If you, or someone you know, needs help, please know we are here and there are services available.

This online training is free to attend, but we do ask you pre-register (see flyer for details and register here). More than 27,000 lives have been saved as a result of Narcan kits given to friends and family to reverse opioid overdoses around the US.

We hope you might consider joining us for this training, as well as also help us share this event with those who may find it beneficial.
