Town of Stonington Municipal Reopening Update

Below you can find updates regarding the Town of Stonington's multi-stage reopening plan. Please note, department specific information will also be available on our website, under each relevant department by June 1 2020.

  • Previously, on May 26th, the athletic playing fields, turf and track area in Spellman Park, along with the tennis and basketball courts were opened under social distancing protocols.
  • As of Monday June 1st, the Transfer Station will be returning to normal hours and no appointments will be required. Please remember, residents are asked to continue to adhere to social distancing guidelines and wear masks.
  • As of Monday June 8th, the Town Hall will re-open to the public, with department specific information on our website and general requests outlined below. For those unable or uncomfortable coming into Town Hall, we will still have many virtual service options and are also happy to meet outside when feasible. Please know, all visitors to Town Hall will be asked to wear a mask to protect those who are at-risk.
    • Drop box: please continue to use the drop box outside whenever possible. This new option has been working well and we plan to keep it in place for the foreseeable future.
    • Virtual support: many requests can be handled over the phone or through email. Please reach out to the specific department, or for general questions the First Selectman’s office, to see if we may help you virtually.
    • Outdoor meetings: we have put out two picnic tables, where small meetings can take place outdoors. If you are looking to have a meeting with staff, please let us know if you’d like an outdoor option.
  • Human Services will continue to serve residents as they have been with primarily virtual connections, with plans to start increasing opportunities for in-person meetings and activities over the coming weeks and month. Residents in need of social services and counseling should call for an appointment with a case manager. Please visit website, Facebook, or call for more details. Stay tuned for updates regarding recreation programs and social check-ins for seniors.

Thank you to many residents who have been patient and flexible with us during this challenging time. We look forward to seeing you again in-person.

Please also help us in keeping our community as safe as we can during this time. If you know of anyone in a high risk category, please be sure they know that there are services like SHARE (www.stoningtonhelps.org) ready to help them so they don’t need to be out. Also our human services team is available to help assist residents with social service related needs, such as mental health or financial assistance. Lastly, as the new Executive Orders have come out increasing social gathering size allowed indoors and outdoors, please keep in mind that contract tracing remains a key way our local health officials are able to help curb the spread of this virus. Consider watching this video from LLHD (youtu.be/ilAWcc2ADOc) to learn more, or simply remember limiting your interactions with those outside those in your ‘inner circle’ remains critical, as does wearing a protective mask and practicing social distancing. Remember, it is not for you, but for the more vulnerable around you.
